I used to subscribe to Google News RSS feed for news on dogs. No more, I quit. It’s all bad. It’s about people abusing their dogs, killing their dogs, negleting their dogs, starving their dogs, … where are all the good stories? I know lots of people out there love their dogs.
What do you think of all the terrible stories about how dogs are mistreated?
Do you think there should be more positive stories as well? (If so, I’m trying!)

China recently issued a one dog per family rule and no large dogs or "dangerous dogs." The reason supposedly is rabies. Only 3% of China’s dogs are vaccinated against rabies and rabies killed over 300 people in September alone in China.

[Note that my SO and I would not have been able to move in together for years after we did, if this rule was in effect in the US. Neither one of us would have given up our dog!]
I raise guide dog puppies for Guide Dogs for the Blind, so I pay attention to any articles about raising service dogs. This New York Times’s article, Who Let These Dogs Out? talks about a program that has prisoners raising and training puppies and then socializing them with urbanites on weekends. The urbanites are people who can’t have a dog due to too little space or too little time. Both the prisoners and the urbanites benefit from a relationship with a puppy.
One of these dogs, featured in a New York Times article, actually got his own apartment in NYC!
